RPMI 1640 +Glutamax, originally developed for human leukemic cells, is now widely used for various mammalian cells, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas.
This medium contains the reducing agent glutathione and high vitamin concentrations not found in other media. It includes biotin, vitamin B12, and PABA, while inositol and choline are present in high amounts. RPMI 1640 +Glutamax minimizes toxic ammonia build-up, improving cell viability. It requires supplementation with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) and uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system.
