Identification of genotype and authenticity of horses, study of horse pedigrees, analysis of horse racing, and so on have become a necessity in the modern world, where horses are highly valuable due to their participation in various competitions, and therefore the precise identification of their profiles has become essential.

The HorseFiling™ kit v5.2 determines the authenticity of horses similar to identifying human identity. This kit includes 22 STR markers (short tandem repeat sequences of 2 and 4 base pairs) located on 17 horse genome chromosomes. These markers are amplified by the Multiplex PCR method, and their results are determined using capillary electrophoresis. Out of the 22 kit markers, 17 markers are designed based on the recommended markers of the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) and are commonly used in horse authenticity tests due to their high polymorphism. In addition, for determining the gender of the horse, the SRY and AMXY loci have been added to the kit in addition to LEX3. The DNA sequence for each horse is unique throughout its lifetime. In fact, DNA contains short tandem repeat sequences of 2 and 4 base pairs called STR, which are found throughout the genome and are not observed in any other horse unless the horses in question are identical twins, which is a very rare phenomenon.

Determining the DNA profile of a horse, like determining human identity, has multiple applications. Among these applications is having a document that confirms the identity of each horse, and if it has been stolen or lost, it can be proven by its owner. Also, with access to a horse sample (such as hair), it is possible to confirm during purchase or foaling that the horse received is indeed of the same breed and specifications. Therefore, this kit ensures the accuracy and correctness of the horse breed for breeders.
